אפריז

אפריז (מצרפתית, frise) הוא אלמנט אדריכלי שמקורו באדריכלות יוון העתיקה והוא אחת השכבות האופקיות המופיעות בחזית טיפוסית של מבנים קלאסיים ונאו-קלאסיים. קיימות גרסאות רבות של אפריזים אשר בחלקן האלמנט חלק ונקי מקישוטים ובאפריזים רבים מופיעים קישוטים ותבליטי אבן שמטרתם קישוט או העברת מסר כלשהו (כגון סיפור היסטורי או דתי המוצג על ידי פיסול).

האפריז הוא הרצועה האמצעית באנטבלטורה, חלקה העליון של החזית, והוא נמצא מעל הארכיטרב ומתחת לקרניז והגמלון. מידות האפריז בבנייה הקלאסית משתנות אך הן פרופורציונליות לשאר הרכיבים על פי הגדרות הסדרים הקלאסיים. הסדר הדורי מחלק אותו ליחידות רוחב משניות המכונות "מטופות" ו"טריגליפים" שמופיעים בהתאם למקצב העמודים. המטופות הם תבליטי אבן והטריגליפים הם הפסים המפרידים ביניהם ומחלקים את האפריז במקצב שווה, מדויק וסימטרי. הקרניז (כרכוב) המונחת מעל האפריז, בולטת ממנו מעט כלפי החוץ ומדגישה אותו על ידי מיסגורו בקווים אופקיים ארוכים.

משתמשים במושג זה גם כדי להגדיר בעיצוב הפנים של מבנה את הקו האופקי הנמצא גם בחלקו העליון של חלון בעל מסגרת קישוטית, באופן דומה להופעתו של האפריז בחזית החיצונית. כמו כן, השפה העיצובית של האפריז, דהיינו שכבה ברורה ומוגדרת המכילה קישוטים, מופיעה גם בעיצוב קלאסי של ריהוט ואלמנטים נוספים של עיצוב פנים, מסגרות תמונות ועוד.

Frieze
In architecture the frieze is the wide central section part of an entablature and may be plain in the Ionic or Doric order, or decorated with bas-reliefs. Even when neither columns nor pilasters are expressed, on an astylar wall it lies upon the architrave ('main beam') and is capped by the moldings of the cornice. A frieze can be found on many Greek and Roman buildings, the Parthenon Frieze being the most famous, and perhaps the most elaborate.
