חמאית

חמאית (שם מדעי: Pinguicula), צמח טורף ממשפחת הנאדידיים שמונה כ-80 מינים. המינים נפוצים ברובם בחצי הכדור הצפוני ומרביתם מצויים במקסיקו ובאירופה. החמאית, בדומה לטללית, משתמשת במלכודת דבק כדי ללכוד את טרפה, המורכב בעיקר מיתושים, זבובים וחרקים קטנים נוספים. פני העלה של החמאית מכוסים בבלוטות המפרישות דבק לכידה ובכאלה המפרישות אנזמי עיכול המעכלים את הטרף הנדבק לעלים.

המין חמאית האלפים גדל באזורים שונים על פני כדור הארץ; מהרי האלפים והפירנאים שבאירופה ועד להרי ההימאלאיה שבמזרח אסיה (צפון הודו, נפאל והרי טיבט). בתקופת הקרח האחרונה לפני כ-10000 שנה, חמאית האלפים(pinguicula alpina), הייתה נפוצה לאורך כל יבשות אירופה ואסיה מהפירנאים ועד להרי ההימאליה ונפאל. אולם עקב התחממות האקלים נכחד הצמח מכל אזור הביניים שבין מערב אירופה לצפון הודו ונפאל.

Pinguicula
Pinguicula, commonly known as the butterworts, is a genus of carnivorous plants that use sticky, glandular leaves to lure, trap, and digest insects in order to supplement the poor mineral nutrition they obtain from the environments. Of the roughly 80 currently known species, 12 are native to Europe, 9 to North America, and some in northern Asia. The largest number of species is in South and Central America.
