gnostic religion with a strongly
dualistic worldview. Its adherents, the
Mandaeans, revere
Adam,
Abel,
Seth,
Enos,
Noah,
Shem,
Aram and especially
John the Baptist, but reject
Abraham,
Moses and Jesus. The Aramaic
manda means "knowledge," as does Greek
gnosis.
