צורב

צורב הוא מכשיר המסוגל לכתוב נתונים על תקליטור, המשמש כאמצעי לאחסון נתונים בנפחים שונים, החל מ-650 מגהבייט בתקליטור CD וכלה ב-100 גיגהבייט בצורב בלו ריי. בנוסף לזאת הוא משמש בדרך כלל לקריאת נתונים גם ככונן תקליטורים או ככונן DVD. לעתים ישנם מכשירים משולבים, שבו יש קורא מהדור הבא עם צורב מדור קודם. הצורב יכול לצרוב דיסק חדש שיהיה העתק לדיסק קיים, וכמו כן לצרוב דיסק חדש שיהיה העתק לתמונת ISO.

צורב תקליטורים משתמש בקרן לייזר בעוצמה חזקה יותר לכתיבת נתונים, מאשר קרן הלייזר שמשמשת לקריאת הנתונים. הנתונים הנכתבים על התקליטור הם בינאריים, כלומר סדרה של סימני 1 ו-0. כאשר מגיעה ללייזר הוראה לצרוב "1", עולה הספק קרן הלייזר והיא גורמת לשינוי צבע בנקודה מסוימת על התקליטור וכתם זעיר. כאשר מגיעה ללייזר הוראה לצרוב "0" היא נשארת בהספק נמוך וכך לא משנה את הקטע הזעיר בתקליטור ולא צורבת דבר.

הצורבים הראשונים הופיעו בשוק ב-1988, אך הם היו איטיים מאוד ומחירם היה יותר מ-100,000 דולר, לכן רק חברות גדולות היו יכולות להרשות לעצמן לרכוש צורב. עם הזמן צנח מחיר הצורבים וכיום מחירם הוא כ-100 שקלים. צורבי DVD עולים מעט יותר.

DVD-RW
A DVD-RW disc is a rewritable optical disc with equal storage capacity to a DVD-R, typically 4.7 GB (4,700,000,000 bytes). The format was developed by Pioneer in November 1999 and has been approved by the DVD Forum. The smaller Mini DVD-RW holds 1.46 GB, with a diameter of 8 cm.

DVD+RW
DVD+RW is a physical format for rewritable DVDs and can hold up to 4.7 GB. DVD+RW was created by the DVD+RW Alliance, an industry consortium of drive and disc manufacturers. Additionally, DVD+RW supports a method of writing called "lossless linking", which makes it suitable for random access and improves compatibility with DVD players.

DVD±R
DVD±R (also DVD+/-R, or "DVD plus/dash R") is not a separate DVD format, but rather is a shorthand term for a DVD drive that can accept both of the common recordable DVD formats (i.e. DVD-R and DVD+R). Likewise, DVD±RW (also written as DVD±R/W, DVD±R/RW, DVD±R/±RW, DVD+/-RW, and other arbitrary ways) handles both common rewritable disc types (i.e. DVD-RW and DVD+RW, but not usually DVD-RAM).
