גליצרול (Glycerol) הוא תרכובת אורגנית פשוטה בעלת חשיבות עליונה בכל הייצורים החיים שכן היא חיונית ליצירת טריגליצרידים וכן בתעשייה, התרכובת מורכבת מאטומי פחמן, מימן וחמצן. הגליצרול הוא דליק. נוסחתו של גליצרול היא C3H8O3, ובהצגה פחות כללית: CH2OHCHOHCH2OH.

Glycerol
Glycerol (also called glycerine or glycerin; see spelling differences) is a simple polyol (sugar alcohol) compound. It is a colorless, odorless, viscous liquid that is widely used in pharmaceutical formulations. Glycerol has three hydroxyl groups that are responsible for its solubility in water and its hygroscopic nature. The glycerol backbone is central to all lipids known as triglycerides. Glycerol is sweet-tasting and is non-toxic.

Glycerin
A clear, sweet syrupy liquid extracted from animal fats and vegetable oils, and is a by-product of soap manufacturing. It is used (in small amounts) in certain cake, pastry, and icing mixtures. The reason being that it is able to draw moisture from the air, keeping these products most and extending their shelf life.
