לשון הרע הוא אמירה הפוגעת בכבוד או בשם הטוב של אדם, קבוצת בני אדם או ארגון. לשון הרע שאינה אמת נחשבת במדינות רבות לעבירה פלילית ולעוולה אזרחית, ויש האוסרים גם לשון הרע שיסודה אמת. על המצב המשפטי בישראל ראה ערך נפרד חוק איסור לשון הרע.
