קבוצת כוכבים ("קונסטלציה" בלעז) היא אוסף של כוכבים שבמבט מכדור הארץ נראים קרובים זה לזה על כיפת השמיים. כמעט בכל המקרים הקירבה בין כוכבי הקבוצה היא אופטית בלבד: המרחקים האמיתיים של כוכבי כל קבוצה מכדור הארץ, וזה מזה, הם עצומים, ואין ביניהם כל קשר פיזי, אך על כיפת השמים בלילה הם נראים סמוכים זה לזה.

קבוצות הכוכבים מתחלפות בהדרגה עם המעבר בין קווי רוחב ובין עונות השנה. לכן לפני המצאת אמצעי ניווט ומדידת זמן משוכללים, הייתה להכרת קבוצות הכוכבים חשיבות רבה.

In modern astronomy, a constellation is a specific area of the celestial sphere as defined by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). These areas mostly had their origins in Western-traditional asterisms from which the constellations take their names. There are 88 officially recognized constellations, covering the entire sky.
