נחמיה

נְחֶמְיָה בֶּן-חֲכַלְיָה היה ממנהיגי היהודים בימי שיבת ציון שבתקופת בית שני ומחברי הכנסת הגדולה. פעולותיו מפורטות בספר נחמיה שנכתב ברובו על ידי נחמיה עצמו, בגוף ראשון. שימש כשר המשקים של המלך הפרסי ארתחשסתא הראשון, תפקיד שעבורו נבחר אדם שבו נתן המלך אמון רב ומאוחר יותר אף מינה אותו המלך לתפקיד פחה האחראי על פחוות יהודה. משמעות שמו דומה למילה נחמה; ייתכן שהוענק לו משום שנולד אחרי הצהרת כורש.

על פי המסורת נפטר נחמיה בט' בטבת.

Nehemiah ( or ; , "Jehovah comforts", long version of the name "Nahum" which also means comforter; Standard Hebrew Nəḥemya, Tiberian Hebrew Nəḥemyāh) is the central figure of the Book of Nehemiah, which describes his work in rebuilding Jerusalem during the Second Temple period. He was governor of Persian Judea under Artaxerxes I of Persia (c. 5th century BC).
