כנסיית ישו המשיח של קדושי אחרית הימים, הידועה כאחת מתוך כנסיות המורמונים, היא הכנסייה הגדולה ביותר ב"תנועת קדושי אחרית הימים", שהיא תנועה נוצרית הקוראת לחיפוש וחידוש דרכיה המקוריות של הנצרות. יש הסבורים שכנסייה זו היא הכנסייה הלגיטימית היחידה הראויה להיקרא "מורמונית", אך ישנם זרמים ותנועות אשר מתקיימים בנפרד מן הגוף העיקרי.

מנהגיהם העיקריים של המורמונים כוללים:

  • הטפה מיסיונרית פעילה.
  • אמונה בנביאים מודרניים, החל מג'וזף סמית וכלה בנשיאה הנוכחי של הכנסייה.
  • קבלת התנ"ך עם הברית החדשה וספר מורמון כספרי קודש.
  • קבלת עקרונות תזונה המכונים "דבר החוכמה", הדורשים להימנע מאלכוהול, טבק, קפה ותה.
  • אמונה באל כאב, בישו כבנו וברוח הקודש כמהווים שלוש ישויות נפרדות.
  • אמונה בסוג של תאוסיס (האלה) הקרויה "אקסאלטציה" (exaltation) לפיה יכולה הנפש האנושית להפוך לשווה במהותה לאלוהי.
  • לבישת מלבושי קודש מתחת לבגדי היום יום.
  • עריכת טקסי הטבלה סמליים בעבור המתים, ומחקר גנאלוגי הנועד לסייע בידם בכך.

חברי הכנסייה מכנים עצמם "נוצרים" אך אינם שייכים לנצרות האורתודוקסית, לנצרות הקתולית או לנצרות הפרוטסטנטית. לדעת חבריה מהווה הכנסייה חזרה לכנסייה אותה ייסד ישו. זרם הקרוי "פונדמנטליסטים מורמונים" פרש מהכנסייה ומקיים מנהגים קיצוניים אותם נטשו זה מכבר חברי הזרם המרכזי, כגון פוליגמיה. יש נוצרים רבים שאינם רואים במורמונים כנסייה נוצרית.

Mormons are a religious and cultural group related to Mormonism, the principal branch of the Latter Day Saint movement of Restorationist Christianity, which began with Joseph Smith in upstate New York during the 1820s. After Smith's death in 1844, the Mormons followed Brigham Young to what would become the Utah Territory. Today, most Mormons are understood to be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Some Mormons are also either independent or non-practicing. The center of Mormon cultural influence is in Utah, and North America has more Mormons than any other continent, though the majority of Mormons live outside the United States.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the LDS Church or, informally, the Mormon Church) is a Christian restorationist church that is considered by its followers to be the restoration of the original church founded by Jesus Christ. The church is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has established congregations (called wards or branches) and built temples worldwide. According to the church, it has over 85,000 missionaries and a membership of over 15 million. It is ranked by the National Council of Churches as the fourth-largest Christian denomination in the United States. It is the largest denomination in the Latter Day Saint movement founded by Joseph Smith during the period of religious revival known as the Second Great Awakening.
