Hamas ( , an
acronym of Islamic Resistance Movement) is a
Palestinian Islamic organization, with an associated military wing, the
Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, in the
Palestinian territories and elsewhere in the Middle East including
Qatar. Hamas is
designated as a terrorist organization by the
European Union, Canada, Israel, Egypt, Japan, and the United States. Australia and the United Kingdom have designated the military wing of Hamas, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, as a terrorist organization. The organization is banned in
Jordan. It is not regarded as a terrorist organization by Iran, Russia, Norway, Switzerland, Brazil, Turkey, China, and
Qatar.
