Workflow

יישום-על שמטרתו לנהל ולבקר את מכלול תהליכי העבודה ואת זרימת העבודה ב"תחנות" השונות בארגון. בהיבט הניהולי, מטרת יישום זה היא לתת להנהלה מידע על "צווארי בקבוק" ותחנות בהם תהליכי העבודה מתעכבים וכיצד ניתן לשפרם. בהיבט היישומי, מערכת Workflow מנהלת "תיקים" (Folders) אשר נעים מתחנה לתחנה, דוגמת תיקים ידניים, כאשר כל פקיד מטפל ב"קטע שלו". בהיבט הטכני, מערכת WF מקיימת ממשקי API (עיין ערך) ותקשורת הדוקים עם מערכות מידע ומחשבים שונים בארגון ומנהלת בסיס נתונים מתקדם משלה. בהיבט ממשק אדם-מחשב מערכת WF מציגה תפיסה חדשה של "מגש עבודה" ותפריט-מכוון-מטלות: מטלות שנשלחו אלי, מטלות שנשלחו ממני, מעקב מטלות וכו'.


שימושי WF באים לידי ביטוי במיוחד בארגונים בהם מערכות המידע - שמעליהן בנויה מערכת ה-WF  - מנהלות מידע משולב (compound data) של טקסט, מסמכים, דימות (imaging) ועוד. במקרים אלה, התיק (הfolder -) יכיל יותר הצבעות מאשר נתונים ובסיס הנתונים של מערכת הWF - עצמה יהיה פשוט, יחסית. WF מוזכר תדיר בהקשר עם שיטות איכות, Groupware, ניהול עסקי מתקדם, שרת/לקוח, BPR ועוד.

    Workflow diagrams are a formal way to identify procedural steps and the logic employed in a process used to complete a task or job. Workflow diagrams include each interim step and product(s); the direction of movement through the process (indicated by arrows); decision points, alternative processes and repeated steps, and dependencies (steps or processes that must be completed before, during or after completion of a particular step); and can include the estimated time required for each step, who performs or reviews each step, and resource requirements. Depending on the type of workflow diagramming method used, the start and end points of each interim step may be listed separately or the entire process step can be indicated by a single notation.
