הוודות (vedas, סנסקריט: वेद - יֶדַע) הן אוסף של קובצי דת הנחשבים לעתיקים ביותר בהינדואיזם ולבסיס של רוב ההתפתחויות המאוחרות בדת. פירוש המילה בסנסקריט הוא "ידע" (מלשון vid - "לדעת" - פעלים מקבילים קיימים בשפות הודו-אירופיות אחרות). הכוונה המקורית הייתה לריג ודה - קובץ דתי קדום שמקורו בצפון מערב הודו. לאחר מכן הורחבה משמעות המילה "ודות" והתייחסה לקובץ אסופות הבסיס ("סמהיטות") שנוספו על הריג ודה. המילה "ודות" משמשת כיום כשם נרדף למכלול הרחב של כתבי ה-Sruti ("התגלויות") - טקסטים קדושים אשר חוברו לאורך אלפי השנים כהמשכים, תוספות והשלמות לוודות.
