טריגונומטריה

טריגונומטריה (מיוונית  "משולש" + "מדידה") היא ענף במתמטיקה העוסק בחקר המשולשים והקשר שבין צלעותיהם וזוויותיהם. קשר זה מבוטא בעזרת פונקציות טריגונומטריות, שהמוכרות שבהן הן סינוס, קוסינוס וטנגנס. הטריגונומטריה התפתחה במאה ה-3 לפני הספירה כענף של גאומטריה עבור שימושים באסטרונומיה. כיום לטריגונומטריה יישומים רבים מעבר לאסטרונומיה, למשל עבור ניווט, אופטיקה ובתאוריית המוזיקה.
