סנאט

סנאט הוא גוף פוליטי מייצג, מקור המילה במילה הלטינית senex, שפירושה "אדם זקן", וממנה המילה Senatus. המילה הלטינית "סנאטור" (Senator), שנמצאת בשימוש ברוב שפות העולם, מקורה במבנה חברתי פשוט וקדום, בו ניתן כוח ההכרעה לזקני השבט. הסנאט הראשון היה ברומא העתיקה.
