A ( or ) was a poet as represented in Old English poetry. The scop is the Anglo-Saxon counterpart of the Old Norse , with the important difference that "skald" was applied to historical persons while "scop" is used, for the most part, to designate oral poets within Old English literature. There is very little information known about the mythical scop and its existence is still under debate.

Giovanni Antonio Scopoli (sometimes Latinized as Johannes Antonius Scopolius) (3 June 1723 – 8 May 1788) was a Tyrolean physician and naturalist. His biographer Otto Guglia named him the "first anational European" and the "Linnaeus of the Austrian Empire".
