Northern OverviewSamoyeds are charming, intelligent family companions that are very good with children and other animals and respectful of strangers. Like most spitz-type dogs, they can be stubborn and independent and, as a result, difficult to obedience train; starting early makes the job easier. Samoyeds must be included in family activities or they will become destructive. These dogs are barkers; that's how they like to communicate when they are feeling happy, sad, nervous, or isolated.
