ראומטולוגיה היא תת-התמחות ברפואה פנימית וברפואת ילדים, שעוסקת באבחון ובטיפול במחלות הקשורות במפרקים, ברקמות רכות וברקמות חיבוריות (הקרויות מחלות ראומטיות). מומחים לראומטולוגיה מכונים ראומטולוגים. מקור המונח ראומטולוגיה במילה היוונית ראומה, שפירושה "משהו שזורם כמו נהר, או כמו נחל" ומהסיומת לוגיה – שמשמעותה חקר.

ראומטולוגיה הופכת במהירות לתחום התמחות ברפואה, התקדמות זו נובעת בעיקר מתגליות מדעיות בנוגע לחקר מערכת החיסון, הקשורה למחלות אלו. הגורמים למחלות ראומטולוגיות הם על פי רוב בעיות במערכת החיסונית, כל המחלות הראומטולוגיות הגדולות נובעות כתוצאה מחיסון עצמי, דהיינו אלו הן מחלות אוטואימוניות (מחלות חיסון עצמי).

לכן רוב סוגי הטיפולים מתבססים על מחקרים רפואיים בנושא החיסון ועל ההבנה המשתפרת של היסודות הגנטיים של הפרעות ריאומטולוגיות. ייתכן שבעתיד הטיפולים יכללו גם ריפוי גני. טיפולים המבוססים על רפואה מבוססת ראיות במחלות ריאומטיות, מסייעים לחולי ראומטיזם (שיגרון) לקיים חיים כמעט נורמליים.
