resonator – מילון אנגלי-אנגלי
resonator
n.
device used to amplify sound through reverberation
Resonator
A
resonator is a device or system that exhibits
resonance or resonant behavior, that is, it naturally
oscillates at some
frequencies, called its
resonant frequencies, with greater
amplitude than at others. The oscillations in a resonator can be either
electromagnetic or mechanical (including
acoustic). Resonators are used to either generate waves of specific frequencies or to select specific frequencies from a signal. Musical instruments use
acoustic resonators that produce sound waves of specific tones.
resonator
Noun
1. a hollow chamber whose dimensions allow the resonant oscillation of electromagnetic or acoustic waves
(synonym) cavity resonator, resonating chamber
(hypernym) chamber
(hyponym) soundbox
(derivation) resonate, vibrate
2. an electrical circuit that combines capacitance and inductance in such a way that a periodic electric oscillation will reach maximum amplitude
(synonym) resonant circuit
(hypernym) circuit, electrical circuit, electric circuit
3. any system that resonates
(hypernym) system
(derivation) resonate, vibrate
Resonator (der)

resonator, device used to amplify sound through reverberation
Resonator
(n.)
Anything which resounds; specifically, a vessel in the form of a cylinder open at one end, or a hollow ball of brass with two apertures, so contrived as to greatly intensify a musical tone by its resonance. It is used for the study and analysis of complex sounds.
