Pronghorn
The
pronghorn (
Antilocapra americana) is a species of
artiodactyl mammal indigenous to interior western and central
North America. Though not an
antelope, it is often known colloquially in North America as the
prong buck,
pronghorn antelope, or simply
antelope because it closely resembles the true antelopes of the
Old World and fills a similar ecological niche due to
parallel evolution.

Pronghorn
(n.)
An American antelope (Antilocapra Americana), native of the plain near the Rocky Mountains. The upper parts are mostly yellowish brown; the under parts, the sides of the head and throat, and the buttocks, are white. The horny sheath of the horns is shed annually. Called also cabree, cabut, prongbuck, and pronghorned antelope.
