כוח מבחינה סוציולוגית הוא היכולת לגרום או לכפות על יחידים וקבוצות לפעול בדרך מסוימת או להימנע מפעולה בדרך אחרת, בדרך כלל על ידי נקיטת סנקציות שונות או על ידי איום בהן. כוח, יכול להתבטא ככוח פיזי או להבדיל ככוח פוליטי, המתבטא באיום בסנקציות כלכליות, חברתיות וכדומה. כוח הוא גורם מסביר חשוב מאוד בכל תאוריה סוציולוגית, ובעזרתו ניתן להסביר כיצד נורמות וערכים מוצאים את ביטויים בהתנהגות, לדוגמה.
