Polydipsia is excessive
thirst. The word derives from the
Greek πολυδιψία, which is derived from
πολύς (
polys, "much, many") +
δίψα (
dipsa, "thirst"). Polydipsia is a nonspecific
symptom in various medical disorders. It also occurs as an
abnormal behaviour in animals.
