יְמֵי הַבֵּינַיִם (בלטינית: Medium Aevum) הם תקופה במהלך ההיסטוריה האירופית שתחילתה עם סיום העת העתיקה וסופה עם הופעת הרנסאנס ותחילתה של העת החדשה. המונח הופיע לראשונה באיטליה במהלך המאה ה-15, לציון העידן שבין נפילתה של הקיסרות הרומית בשנת 476 (ב), עד 1492 (במאה ה-15) - שנת גילוי יבשת אמריקה (או התקופה הנוכחית, לטינית: praesens tempus).

בהיסטוריוגרפיה קיימים מונחים מקבילים למונח ימי הביניים: "הזמנים האפלים" ו"התקופה החשוכה" (גרמנית: Dunkle Zeitalter). כוונת המלומדים שהגו את המונחים הייתה להבחין בין התרבות והחשיבה שהיו מקובלות בעת העתיקה, לבין התקופה שבאה אחריה, אותה תיארו כעידן של אפלה ושקיעה.

Middle Ages
