בכלכלה, שוק הוא המשגה למערכות יחסים בין קונים ומוכרים. על בסיס התופעה ההיסטורית של ריכוז קונים ומוכרים באתר פיזי אחד, נבנה הכינוי למערכת אשר במסגרתה מתרחשת פעילות כלכלית הקשורה במסחר במוצרים, בסחורות או בניירות ערך מסוגים מסוימים. בשוק פעילים המוכרים והקונים המעוניינים לקיים את המסחר ביניהם, ובו מתרחשות עסקאות הסחר. בדרך כלל זאת מערכת שקיימת לאורך זמן, ושבה מתרחשות מספר גדול של עיסקאות.

הפעילות בשוק יכולה להתרחש בזירת מסחר פיזית או וירטואלית אחת, שבה כל מוכר יכול לסחור עם כל קונה. לדוגמה, רוב פעילות שוק המניות בישראל מתרחשת במסגרת הבורסה לניירות ערך בתל אביב. בדרך כלל משתמשים בביטוי כדי לתאר מערכת מבוזרת שבה מתרחשות עסקאות שונות במקומות שונים על ידי שחקנים שונים. בין העסקאות האלה קיימת, עם זאת, השפעה הדדית. לדוגמה, בשוק העגבניות הקמעונאי בישראל מתרחשות בכל יום עשרות או מאות אלפי עסקאות, באלפי בתי עסק המפוזרים ברחבי הארץ; אך אם בשל בצורת היצע העגבניות ירד, הדבר ישפיע על מחירי העגבניות בכל הארץ. במובן זה שוק הוא מונח מופשט, המאגד קבוצה של עסקאות שהקשר המוחשי ביניהן רופף. בשל כך ניתן לשאול בהקשר מסוים האם אכן מתקיים בו 'שוק'. גישות ביקורתיות להגות הכלכלית תטענה שהשימוש במטאפורת השוק למערכות יחסים שונות משמשת להבניה שלהן כזירת מסחר וניתוקן מהקשר חברתי כולל. כמו למשל המונח שוק העבודה, או שוק הנישואין. השוק הוא אחת מיחידות הניתוח הבסיסיות בתורת הכלכלה. זוהי יחידת ניתוח גדולה יותר מאשר העסקה הבודדת, וקטנה יותר מאשר משק שלם.
