הפריה מלאכותית היא טכנולוגיה רפואית, במגוון שיטות, המשמשת להפריה שלא באמצעות קיום יחסי מין. השיטה משמשת למתן מענה לבעיות אי פריון, וכן להפריה של נשים שמסיבות שונות מעדיפות שלא לעשות זאת באמצעות קיום יחסי מין. בבעלי חיים בחקלאות המתועשת נהוגה הפריה מלאכותית באמצעות הזרעה מלאכותית. רקע תאורטי דווח ראשון על הפריה מלאכותית התרחש בשנת 1884; פרופסור פילדלפי לקח את זרע מסטודנט "שנראה הכי טוב" כדי להפרות אישה מורדמת. האישה לא נודעה בהליך, וגם בעלה העקר. המקרה דווח 25 שנים לאחר מכן במגזין רפואי. בשנות ה-80 מהמאה הקודמת, הפריה מלאכותית בוצעה מדי פעם, אשר רופאים הזריקו זרע לתוך הבטן התחתונה דרך חור או חתך ניתוחי, בכוונה לתת לזרע למצוא את הביצית.
