A
hotel is an establishment that provides
lodging paid on a short-term basis. Facilities provided may range from a basic bed and storage for clothing, to luxury features like
en-suite bathrooms. Larger hotels may provide additional guest facilities such as a swimming pool, business centre, childcare, conference facilities and social function services. Hotel rooms are usually
numbered (or named in some smaller hotels and
B&Bs) to allow guests to identify their room. Some hotels offer meals as part of a room and board arrangement. In the United Kingdom, a hotel is required by law to serve food and drinks to all guests within certain stated hours. In Japan,
capsule hotels provide a minimized amount of room space and shared facilities.
