גטו (בעבר רווח הכתיב גיטו; מאיטלקית: Ghetto) בהקשר ההיסטורי-יהודי הוא הכינוי לצורת ההתיישבות היהודית בגולה ברבעים וביישובים נפרדים, מסוגרים בתוך עצמם מבחינה תרבותית מהעמים הלא-יהודיים. מקור המונח "גטו" ברובע היהודי בעיר ונציה ב, שם היה הרובע בסביבת בית היציקה (באיטלקית: Ghetto), ומאז הפך השם להיות רווח לכל רובעי היהודים באירופה.

בנרטיב הציוני קיבל מושג הגטו גם משמעות כללית ומופשטת יותר - כינוי לרעיון הגולה עצמו, שבמרכזו עמדה הסתגרות היהודים, בין מרצון ובין מכורח, מפני העמים האחרים. המילה "גטו" שולבה ביצירותיהם של הוגים ציונים: בנימין זאב הרצל אשר כתב חיבור ספרותי בשם "הגטו החדש" וישראל זנגביל שכתב את "ילדי הגטו". לשני החיבורים הייתה השפעה על בני תקופתם ולאחריה.

המונח משמש כיום לציון כל אזור עירוני המובדל או מתבדל תרבותית מסביבתו, ועל פי רוב מוכה-עוני.
