גאודזיה היא תחום במתמטיקה שימושית העוסק במדידה של פני כדור הארץ, מיפוי והתווייה. מקורה של המילה יווני ומשמעותה המילולית היא: אני מחלק את האדמה. הגאודזיה מציגה כמותית את צורתו ומידותיו של כדור הארץ, עוקבת אחרי תנועותיו ופותרת בעיות הנדסיות. הגאודזיה מספקת תיאור של כדור הארץ, מהירות תנועותיו ונתוני כוח המשיכה על גבי הארץ ומחוצה לה.המהנדס העוסק בתחום זה קרוי מהנדס גאודזיה.

Geodesy
Geodesy , — also known as geodetics or geodetics engineering — a branch of applied mathematics  and earth sciences, is the scientific discipline that deals with the measurement and representation of the Earth, including its gravitational field, in a three-dimensional time-varying space. Geodesists also study geodynamical phenomena such as crustal motion, tides, and polar motion. For this they design global and national control networks, using space and terrestrial techniques while relying on datums and coordinate systems.

Geodesy also includes the large-scale, extended surveys for determining positions and elevations of points, in which the size and shape of the earth must be taken into account.
