בכלכלה, בעסקים ובחשבונאות, עלות היא מחיר ששולם, אירוע מסחרי או עסקה כלכלית. יתר על כן, לעתים עלויות מתאפיינות בהתבסס על עיתוי (תקופת התשלום) או צורת היישום (תשלום במזומן, באשראי או כדומה). בארגונים יצרניים קיימת הבחנה בין עלות הייצור של מוצר (או שירות), שהיא סכום התשלומים ששולמו כדי לייצר לפרסם ולשווק את המוצר, ובין מחיר המוצר לצרכן. כדי שהארגון ירוויח עליו לוודא כי העלות המשולמת קטנה מן המחיר המתקבל.
