אליפסואיד

אליפסואיד הוא גוף תלת-ממדי שכל חתך שלו יוצר אליפסה. המשוואה הכללית שמתארת אליפסואיד במערכת צירים קרטזית היא: , כאשר הם קבועים המכונים צירי האליפסואיד. המרחק בין מרכז האליפסואיד (0,0,0) לבין הנקודות (a,0,0), (0,b,0), (0,0,c) שנמצאות על פני האליפסואיד נקראים חצי ציר. כאשר בהתאם לגודל של a,b,c מוגדר חצי ציר ראשי וחצאי ציר משניים.
