electrolysis (electrology, traditional probe electrolysis)
1. An approach to permanent hair removal whose objective is to destroy papillae only with hair-thin, needle-shaped metal instruments called “filaments,” “needles,” “probes,” or “wires.” 2. (galvanic, galvanic electrolysis, the Galvanic Method) That mode of electrolysis which destroys papillae by inducing the production of sodium hydroxide (caustic soda, or lye). It is characterized by the application of direct current (DC).
