אל הוא על פי אמונות או דתות רבות, ישות אליה מתייחסים כקדושה, עליונה או נשגבת. לעתים קרובות המאמינים משוכנעים שהם יכולים לתקשר עם האל או האלים בדתם, שיכולים להגיב באופן על-טבעי לבקשותיהם, ואף מקיימים כלפי האלים מנהגי פולחן שונים. ניתן לחלק את קבוצת האנשים המאמינים באל למאמינים באל אחד (מונותאיזם), למאמינים בצמד אלים הנמצאם ביניהם ביחסי גומלין (דואליזם, גנוסיס) ולמאמינים בריבוי אלים (פוליתאיזם). בדרך כלל מייחסים לאל שליטה, חלקית או מוחלטת, ב, כוח עצום עד בלתי מוגבל, ולפעמים ידיעה של כל המתרחש ביקום.
