עוררות היא מצב פיזיולוגי ופסיכולוגי של ערנות. מצב זה מערב אקטיבציה של מערכת ההפעלה הרשתית שבגזע המוח, של מערכת העצבים האוטונומית ושל המערכת האנדוקרינית, אשר מביאה להגברת קצב הלב ולחץ הדם, ולמצב של דריכות חושית ונכונות לנוע ולהגיב.
