אַגְנוֹסְטִיוּת, או אגנוסטיציזם, היא השקפה פילוסופית לפיה אין להניח או להסיק דבר לגבי דברים או גורמים שקיומם עדיין לא הוכח, כאשר הכוונה היא, שאין להניח שהם בכלל אינם קיימים או להיצמד לאמונה שהם אכן קיימים. בהקשר של האמונה באלוהים, על פי ההשקפה האגנוסטית, אין שלילה מוחלטת של קיומו האפשרי של האלוהים, אך היא גורסת שאין באפשרות האדם והמדע להוכיח אם דבר כמו אלוהים, או כל דבר רוחני אחר שהוא מעבר לטבע ולתפיסה החושית - קיים או לא. השקפה זו מתייחסת בעיקר לאלוהות, אך גם לכל דבר הנמצא מחוץ להשגת החושים ולהיסק השכלי, ועל פיה, לבעיה לגבי הוכחת קיומו או אי קיומו של האלוהים, אין עדיין פתרון או שאינה ניתנת כלל לפתרון במהותה.

לפיכך, אגנוסטיקן הוא אדם שדוגל בהשקפה הזאת בהקשר של האמונה באלוהים - הוא אינו כופר בהימצאות אלוהים, ובכך הוא נבדל מהאתאיסט, אך גם אינו מניח שהאל אכן קיים, ובכך הוא נבדל מהמאמין.

Agnosticism [from Greek a not + gnostos known] The mental attitude denying the possibility of the real knowledge of truth and hence of the ultimate or fundamental nature of the universe. The term was coined by T. H. Huxley to denote his own attitude, in contrast to Gnosticism which implies the possibility of knowing truth and the inner and invisible realities of the universe. It differs from atheism in not denying the existence of God or cosmic divinities.
