אוטופיה

אוטופיה (מלטינית: Utopia, ניתן להבנה כ"המקום הטוב") הוא מונח שנטבע על ידי תומאס מור באנגליה ב-1516. כיום, במובן הכללי והמקובל ביותר שלו, מתייחס המונח לחברה מושלמת היפותטית. במשך השנים מאז שנטבע, היו שהשתמשו במונח הזה לתיאור קהילות אמיתיות שנוסדו על מנת ליצור חברה כזו. התואר "אוטופי" משמש כיום לעתים קרובות לתיאור מצב שנתפס על ידי הוגיו כרעיון טוב אך בלתי-ישים מבחינה חברתית, כלכלית או פוליטית, או שיישומו כרוך בשינויים חברתיים שרוב האנשים יתקשו לקבלם.

תיאורים של חברות אידאליות נכתבו דורות רבים לפני שנטבע המונח "אוטופיה". בעל ההשפעה הרבה ביותר מביניהם הוא   הפוליטאה של הפילוסוף היווני אפלטון. אף כי אוטופיות נחשבות כרעיונות אידאליסטית או אופטימיסטית בלתי-אפשריים למימוש (בחלק מהמקרים - גם על ידי הוגי האוטופיות עצמם), היו במהלך הדורות ניסיונות לממש אוטופיות במידה כזאת או אחרת של הצלחה. דוגמה מפורסמת לניסיון כזה היא הקיבוץ - דגם ששגשג בישראל מראשית המאה ה-20 ועד שנות ה-70 בקירוב. מונחים שנגזרו מהמונח אוטופיה הם הדיסטופיה (אנטי-אוטופיה, מונח מנוגד) והאוטופיה הסאטירית.

Utopia
A utopia ( ) is a community or society possessing highly desirable or near perfect qualities. The word was coined by Sir Thomas More in Greek for his 1516 book Utopia (in Latin), describing a fictional island society in the Atlantic Ocean. The term has been used to describe both intentional communities that attempt to create an ideal society, and imagined societies portrayed in fiction. It has spawned other concepts, most prominently dystopia.
