Salmoneus (; ) was a son of
Aeolus and
Enarete, and brother of
Athamas,
Sisyphus,
Cretheus,
Perieres,
Deioneus,
Canace,
Alcyone, and
Perimede. Salmoneus was the father of
Tyro by his first wife
Alcidice, the second one being
Sidero.
Salmoneus
[Greek heroic] The son of Aeolus en Enarete, king of Elis. In his vanity he thought he could equal Zeus by driving around in a bronze chariot, making much noise, and imitating Zeus' thunder and lightning. He had also people made offering to him. To pay for this insult, Zeus struck him down with a lightning bolt.
