(ש"ע) דת, אמונה

דת היא סוג של התארגנות חברתית או תרבותית הכוללת מערכת של אמונות והשקפות עולם המקשרות את האנושות לרוחניות או לעקרונות מוסריים מחייבים. דתות רבות כוללות סמלים, פולחנים ו"היסטוריה קדושה" שמיועדות להסביר את הדרך בה נוצרו החיים והיקום ואת משמעותם. דתות רבות גורסות עקרונות מוסריים הנובעים מציווי עליון, חוקים דתיים או אורח חיים שמתחייב על פי עקרונות הדת והאמונה בנוגע ליקום ולטבע האדם.

בדתות רבות קיימים מושגים של תורת הגמול, הכוללים את מושגי תיקון הנשמה, השארות הנפש לאחר המוות, הגעה לאחר המוות הגופני לאותו עולם שבו נמצאים האל או האלים, מלאכים או נשמות אחרות של בני מעלה שזכו לכך, גאולה, משיח כלשהו ותחיה פיזית של הגוף.
