(ש"ע) תורה; חומש

הַתּוֹרָה (או על פי היהדות הרבנית: תּוֹרָה שֶׁבִּכְתָב) היא השם שניתן לחמשת הספרים הראשונים של התנ"ך, הקרויים גם חֲמִשָּׁה חֻמְּשֵׁי תּוֹרָה. מכיוון שעל פי ההשקפה היהודית, כל עקרונות הדת עומדים על המצוות המתוארות בחמשת ספרי התורה, לעתים נעשה שימוש במונח "תורה" גם כדי לתאר את כלל ספרות הקודש היהודית, או באופן מופשט יותר, כל תוכן או ערך רוחני הנובעים ממצוות התורה.

בעולם הנוצרי מכונה התורה לעתים קרובות בשמות שמקורם במונח היווני Πεντάτευχος (Pentateukhos), שפירושו "חמשת הספרים". באסלאם נזכרת התורה בקוראן ובחדית' פעמים רבות בשם "תאוראת" (توراة) וזוכה לשבחים רבים. התורה מוכרת על ידי כמעט כל הכתות שהתפצלו בעיקר מן היהדות והנצרות כהתגלות אלוהית עילאית.
