Mammút is an
Icelandic rock band based in
Reykjavík. Formed in 2003 as
ROK, an all-female trio highlighting vocalist Kata (Katrína Kata Mogensen, daughter of former
Kukl bassist Birgir Mogensen), the group expanded in early 2004 to a 5-piece band by recruiting guitarist Arnar Pétursson and drummer Andri Bjartur Jakobsson, and adopted the new name Mammút.

Central America during the late
Miocene or late
Pliocene up to their extinction at the end of the
Pleistocene 10,000 to 11,000 years ago. Mastodons lived in herds and were predominantly forest dwelling animals that fed on a mixed diet obtained by
browsing and
grazing with a seasonal preference for browsing, similar to living elephants.
