בפיזיקה, הקפאה היא תהליך שבו עובר חומר ממצב צבירה נוזל למצב צבירה מוצק. הקפאה מתרחשת בדרך כלל בעת קירור של הנוזל, אך גם בעת הפעלת לחץ על הנוזל. ההקפאה היא אחד מתהליכי שינוי מצבי הצבירה. הטמפרטורה בה נוזל הופך למוצק נקראת נקודת הקפאון.
