הכפיפה מאפיינת את ההתנהגות של אלמנט מבני תמוך העמוס בכוח הניצב לו. אלמנט כזה העמוס לכפיפה נקרא קורה. התרשים העליון מציג קורה תמוכה בקצותיה העמוסה בעומס רצוף ובכך היא עומדת בכפיפה. הכפיפה גורמת לכך שיהיו כוחות פנימיים בחתך הקורה. כוחות כאלה מוצגים בתרשים התחתון. הסיבים העליונים של הקורה נלחצים אילו הסיבים התחתונים של הקורה נמתחים.

בקורה מופיעים 3 כוחות:

• כוח גזירה בחתך הקורה מקביל לכוח החיצוני המעמיס את הקורה.
• כוח לחיצה הניצב לחתך הקורה בחלק העליון.
• כוח מתיחה הניצב לחתך הקורה בחלק התחתון.
