Walī (, plural ʾawliyāʾ أولياء), is an Arabic word meaning "custodian", "protector", "helper", etc. "Wali" is someone who has "Walayah" (authority or guardianship) over somebody else. For example, in fiqh, a father is wali of his children especially for his daughters in marriage.
