Adrastos – מילון אנגלי-אנגלי
Adrastus
Adrastus (;
Adrastos) or
Adrestus (
Ionic ,
Adrestos), traditionally translated as 'inescapable', was a legendary king of
Argos during the war of the
Seven Against Thebes.
Adrastus
[Greek heroic] The king of Argos. He married his daughters to Tydeus and Polynices, both chased out of Thebes. To return his sons-in-law to their homeland, he mounted an expedition, known as the Seven Against Thebes. On this expedition, all the leaders except Adrastus fell. Adrastus died later from grief over the death of his son Aegealeus and was venerated as a half-god in various Greek cities, among which Sicyon. Adrastus is also the name of the son of Gordias, king of Phrygia. He accidentally killed his brother and fled to Lydia where he was welcomed by King Croesus. When he, again by accident, killed Croesus' son, he took his own life.
