פילוסופיה של הדת

הפילוסופיה של הדת היא ענף של הפילוסופיה העוסק בשאלות הדת, עקרונותיה ומהותה, ומקומה בתרבות האנושית. לעומת התאולוגיה, העוסקת בשיטות של הדתות בדרך כלל מתוך הגיונן הפנימי והאמונה בהתגלות האל, מקור הסמכות של הפילוספיה של הדת הוא התבונה האנושית. והיא כוללת את דעותיהם של הוגי דעות ופילוסופים אשר ניסו להבין או להסביר את הדת, מתוך שיטות או תובנות מסודרות שמקורן הוא הניסיון האנושי של חיי האדם. בהיותה למעשה מחקר של הדת, אין הפילוסופיה של הדת אמורה לתת הסבר סופי וממצה של הראשונה, אלא הצעות שניסוחן מושפע מרוח הזמן.
