sunspot – מילון אנגלי-אנגלי
sunspot
n.
relatively cool region which appears as a dark spot on the sun; summer resort (Slang)
Sunspot
Sunspots are temporary
phenomena on the
photosphere of the
Sun that appear
visibly as dark spots compared to surrounding regions. They correspond to concentrations of
magnetic field flux that inhibit
convection and result in reduced surface temperature compared to the surrounding photosphere. Sunspots usually appear in pairs, with pair members of opposite magnetic
polarity. The number of sunspots varies according to the approximately 11-year solar cycle.

In the photosphere,
i.e. , visible disk of the Sun, a dark marking that manifests a magnetic anomaly that is associated with
interference with
radio communications on Earth.
Note: Sunspot activity,
i.e. , the number of sunspots occurring at a given
time or on a given day, is cyclic. The period of a cycle, from maximum through minimum and back to maximum sunspot count, is approximately 11 years.
