RISC (באנגלית: Reduced Instruction Set Computing; מילולית: "מחשב עם סט פקודות מצומצם") היא גישה בתכנון מעבדים, שמתמקדת בסט הפקודות של המעבד, אך מדברת גם על מאפיינים נוספים של תכנון המעבד, בנוסף לסט הפקודות.

RISC
Reduced Instruction Set Computer
ארכיטקטורת חומרה לפיה יחידת העיבוד המרכזית של המחשב (ויחידות אחרות) בנויה ממספר פקודות בסיסיות (primitives) המבוצעות במהירות גבוהה (בד"כ ב- CPU cycle אחד) וללא שימוש במיקרוקוד. הגישה לזיכרון נעשית ע"י פקודות Load/Store בלבד (שלהן יכולות מתוחכמות כגון pre-fetch) וכל שאר הפקודות (הבסיסיות) עובדות עם הרגיסטרים הפנימיים שב- CPU בלבד. RISC איננה רק חומרה, אלא מבוססת גם על יכולת התוכנה, בעיקר ברמה הבסיסית, לנצל חומרה זו. התוכנות, בעיקר מערכת ההפעלה וקוד המיוצר ע"י קומפיילרים מיוחדים, עושים שימוש בפקודות בסיסיות אלה, במקום בהוראות מיקרוקוד מורכבות. RISC מוצג תמיד כאנטיתזה ל- CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computer) העושה שימוש ניכר במיקרוקוד. RISC מיושם בעיקר בתחנות עבודה. RISC או CISC הוא תכונה של החומרה (3.1) ובשימוש במערכת ההפעלה (3.10) ושפות (3.13).

Reduced instruction set computing
Reduced instruction set computing, or RISC (pronounced 'risk'), is a CPU design strategy based on the insight that a simplified instruction set (as opposed to a complex set) provides higher performance when combined with a microprocessor architecture capable of executing those instructions using fewer microprocessor cycles per instruction. A computer based on this strategy is a reduced instruction set computer, also called RISC. The opposing architecture is called complex instruction set computing, i.e. CISC.
