אמריקה היא יבשת-על המשתרעת לכל אורך כדור הארץ. היא מתוחמת על ידי אוקיינוס הקרח הצפוני בצפון, האוקיינוס השקט במערב והאוקיינוס האטלנטי במזרח. הקצה הדרומי שלה, ארץ האש, נמצא מצפון לחוג האנטארקטי. כלולים בה גם איים רבים, בהם גרינלנד והאיים הקריביים.
